FLORIDIANS OBSERVE CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL DAY

Lee County Confederate Memorial Day Observance

Tallahassee –  Floridians around the State paid their respects to family members who suffered, served and perished during the War Between the States over the weekend in observance of Confederate Memorial Day. Wreaths were placed and ceremonies were held in observance of Confederate Memorial Day.  Confederate Memorial Day is observed on April 26 each year in Florida. “It really speaks to the importance of this day to see participation even during the Pandemic” said David McCallister, Save Southern Heritage Florida spokesman. “We take the honorific commandment seriously in the South:  Honor thy father and thy mother” he added. Save Southern Heritage placed wreaths in Cenotaphs in various locations around the State from Pensacola to Ft. Myers and Lakeland to Jacksonville. Confederate Memorial Day has been observed in the South since 1866 to remember the immense loss of life during the armed conflict of 1861-1865.  It was originally organized in Columbus, Georgia to set aside one day annually to memorialize the Confederate war dead and has continued for 154 years since that time.

SAVE SOUTHERN HERITAGE Inc. is a not for profit corporation that educates & advocates on behalf of Southern Heritage & History.  It was started in 2015 in response to the knee-jerk Anti-Southern institutionalized bullying and “Eracism” levied against the people of South Carolina by Governor Nikki Haley, after she broke all previous agreements about how South Carolina’s historical veterans and their symbols should be treated and respected. The Florida branch was activated in mid-January 2016, in response to three initiatives in the Florida Legislature that are part of a hate campaign led by Anti-American extremists, who refuse to respect the various cultures that make up the fabric of Florida’s society.  Since that time, it has grown in membership and has been active in battles over American History and throughout Florida including the “We’ll Remember in November Campaign” that resulted in #heritagehater candidates to lose elections in Florida and others to win.   More info: www.sshfl.org.
